ERSE adopts extraordinary measures in the energy sector due to Covid-19 epidemiological emergency

A ERSE adota medidas extraordinárias no sector energético por emergência epidemiológica Covid-19

On March 17th, Regulation No. 255-A/2020 was published, which establishes extraordinary measures in the energy sector due to the Covid-19 epidemiological emergency.

Given the international public health emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Energy Services Regulatory Authority (ERSE) decided to set exceptional conditions for the provision of energy supply services to avoid interruptions in the supply of electricity, natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) piped.

Among other measures, Regulation No. 255-A/2020 provides for:

The addition of 30 days to the 20 days already established for the period of notice of interruption of supply for domestic customers;
The possibility of installment payment.

Under Regulation no. 255-A/2020, debts generated by consumers in this additional period of 30 days may be subject to payment in installments, with no charge for late payment interest by companies.

Due to the need to reduce contacts at clients' homes, consumers are called upon to communicate their readings. As an essential public service, all urgent interventions must be ensured.

The rules provided for in Regulation No. 255/2020 have taken effect since March 13th.
