In 2017, the Order of Nurses signed a cooperation protocol with the Arbitration Center of the Autonomous University of Lisbon (CAUAL) which provides all nurses with a free conflict mediation service.
Portuguese nurses thus became the first professionals in the health sector to benefit from Alternative Dispute Resolution methods, as an alternative to the courts.
During this period, thousands of cases were submitted to CAUAL, both from the professional sphere and from the private lives of Nurses. The result of this service exceeded all expectations. More than 98% of the cases were resolved by agreement.
The Order of Nurses makes this service provided by CAUAL available to all Nurses, which includes, among others, the resolution of professional conflicts (between colleagues, with the hierarchy, with the administrations of health units), but also personal conflicts (family, consumer, work, in a sporting context, neighborhood, school, commercial).
Conflicts submitted to CAUAL are confidential and are completely free of charge for Nurses.
